Mental Health

According to the World Health Organization (WHO): “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” We recognise the importance of supporting all staff members to create and maintain positive mental health.

TU Dublin adopts a comprehensive collaborative approach to mental health awareness and stress management by:

The People Development Team provides individual wellbeing initiatives focused on supporting positive mental health & managing stress, throughout the year. These initiatives include:

The TU Dublin Pastoral Care & Chaplaincy Service  provide Mindfulness sessions, which have currently moved to an online format.

Human Resources provide a policy to promote work/life balance and the management and prevention of stress, primarily through the TU Dublin Occupational Stress Management Policy which acts as a guide to best practice for employees and managers.

TU Dublin promotes the use of a Dignity & Respect at Work Policy to prevent bullying, harassment and sexual harassment in the workplace.  The policy aims to support an environment which is free from discrimination on any of the nine equality grounds (gender, religion, age, civil status, family status, disability, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, membership of the Traveller community), bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of harassment.

As part of the TU Dublin Dignity and Respect at Work Policy, the University provides support in the form of Contact Colleagues  are available to speak with any member of staff in the University on a confidential basis. The role of the Contact Colleague is to provide support and assistance to staff who are concerned with the behaviour of colleagues, managers, work associates, suppliers or students towards them.

Supporting your Mental Health:

TU Dublin offers an Employee Assistance Service (EAS) provided by Spectrum Life and which offers a comprehensive suite of supports for staff members on a number of topics, including support for mental health issues. This service is strictly confidential.  Employee Assistance Service

 

Community Engagement:

We realise the importance of working with the community with an aim to embed a culture of inclusion and acceptance in the workplace.  Providing a positive workplace is a collective responsibility and we must all play a part, as individuals and as an organisation.

TU Dublin is an official SeeChange Organisation and support the aims of See Change and are dedicated to ending mental health stigma and create an environment where people are more open and positive in their attitudes and behaviour towards mental health. People Development also act as ambassadors for and work closely with the following organisations:

Suicide or Survive, who’s aim is to educate, inform and inspire people to cultivate good mental health and reduce stigma leading to less death by suicide. 

Jigsaw, whose mission is to advance the mental health of young people in Ireland.

St Patrick’s Mental Health Services who’s vision is to see a society where all citizens are empowered and given the opportunity to live mentally healthy lives
