University/Enterprise Partnership Result! Induction day for new Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Analytics, Technology & Innovation learners
Welcome to the first cohort of Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Analytics, Technology and Innovation learners to TU Dublin
25 professional leaners commenced their first lecture on the Technology Ireland DIGITAL Skillnet Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Analytics, Technology and Innovation, delivered by Technological University Dublin on Friday April 12th, 2024.
These learners included developers, analysts, former athletes, sports managers, sports administrators and tech entrepreneurs – all of who wish to further their knowledge of sports technology/analytics and network with other professionals in other areas.
Programme to drive development of Ireland’ sportstech skills and talent
The programme is being hosted in the Sports Science and Health Building on the TU Dublin Tallaght Campus. The programme was opened by welcome addresses from:
- Dr Claire McBride, TU Dublin Enterprise Academy
- Associate Professor Mary Hunt, Head of School, School of Biological, Health and Sports Sciences
- Dr Kieran Collins, Programme Chair
Throughout the programme, participants will tackle three key challenges facing the sports industry:
- digital transformation in the business of sport;
- sports data for performance and innovation, and
- effectively harnessing sports technology.
The first lecture session included a guest lecture talk on ‘The Sports Tech Landscape’ by Len Middleton, Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

This programme is the result of a remarkable collaboration among key stakeholders in the education and technology sectors including Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet, SportsTech Ireland, and Technological University Dublin’s Enterprise Academy. It has been brought about with HEA HCI Pillar 3 funding provided by this Government, targeting priority and emerging skills needs and greater innovation and agility in our universities.
The programme also demonstrates the agility and flexibility of the university in meeting the complex cross-disciplinary requirements of the sports technology sector, with 3 of TU Dublin's 5 Faculties involved in the development and delivery of the programme: Faculty of Business, Faculty of Sciences and Health and the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data.
