Both the ICT and Fintech sectors are at the forefront of digital transformation and are considered the ‘early adopters’ for other industry sectors.. As a result, ICT companies operate in a rapidly changing environment, requiring organisations to become more adaptable and responsive to new technologies and work practices. In-demand skills for the sector include Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Data Science, Analytics, DevOps, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
With a low unemployment rate for technologists, there is fierce competition for talent. Talent acquisition and retention is a key issue for most chief technology officers. ICT companies need to train and reskill their workforce on an ongoing basis. Owing to the growing demand for tech talent, they also need to give opportunities to candidates without a traditional computing background – “there are no seniors without juniors”.
It is not just tech companies that are struggling to find talent. Financial services providers, airlines and large retailers are expanding their online and digital teams. These traditional businesses are undergoing major change, with improved organisational structures, along with digitally enabled processes and services. New workforce skills and knowledge are required as a result of these changes.
