Creative Digital Media is a practical, hands-on course for creatives who want to make, design and produce work that has impact in the real world. We’ll help you find and develop your creativity and give you the tools and techniques to turn it into an exciting career in Irelands creative industries.

From day one, you will be working across the kinds of creative domains that shape today’s digital industries, including:

  • Graphic design and visual communication
  • Content creation
  • Branding and identity creation
  • Digital marketing and social media
  • UX and UI design for apps and websites
  • Photography and image making
  • Filmmaking and video production
  • Sound and sound production
  • Motion graphics and animation
  • Game development and interactive media
  • Web design and digital experiences

Not sure what you want to specialise in yet?

That is exactly what this course is designed for.

Many students arrive with broad creative interests but no fixed career path. Instead of being locked into one narrow path too early, you get to build real skills across multiple creative areas and discover where your strengths are as you go. Our students specialise in later years of the programme with some focusing on design and branding. For others it becomes film, photography, games, or digital content creation. For many, it is a mix that leads to unexpected and exciting career paths as evidenced by our many successful graduates who influence industry today.

By the time you graduate, you will have a clearer direction and a portfolio that reflects it.

What you will create

Across the course you will build a portfolio of work such as

  • Brand identity projects
  • Short films and digital video content
  • Social media or digital marketing campaigns
  • Photography series
  • UX and app design projects
  • Interactive websites and digital experiences
  • Motion graphics and visual content
  • Creative projects using emerging technologies

These are real, practical outputs that you can show to employers or use when applying for jobs and internships.

You can view a number of samples of student work at http://www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/

Creating in a changing digital world

Technology is changing how creative work is produced across the domains of design, media, marketing, and digital industries. On this course, we have always seen that as an opportunity, not a threat.

Creative Digital Media at TU Dublin has always been technology adaptable. The platforms, software, and AI tools used by the creative industries will continue to evolve, and this course is designed to evolve with them. You will learn how to work with emerging technologies, while developing the skills that matter beyond any single tool or platform. Creative thinking, storytelling, visual communication, design judgement, collaboration, and innovation remain at the centre of what we do.

Our focus is not simply on teaching software. It is on developing top creative professionals who can adapt, lead, and shape the future of digital media as technologies continue to change.

Study Abroad Opportunities

In Year 3, you can apply to undertake a full semester or even a full academic year at an international partner university.

Work Placement

A key part of this course is the opportunity to gain real experience of working in the creative and digital industries. Students can apply for a work placement with a leading media, design, or digital company, gaining first hand insight into how professional creative teams operate. Through the School’s strong industry connections, our students have access to a wide network of leading media companies and agencies, both in Ireland and abroad.

For students who are not in a position to avail of a placement, we offer an alternative professional pathways. You will instead complete industry focused creative projects, developed in collaboration with real world clients and organisations. These projects are designed to mirror professional practice and ensure every student graduates with meaningful, portfolio ready experience.
