Who should attend
Researchers and research-active staff at all stages of their career development.
Outline: As researchers, much of our practice centres around delivering projects. Throughout their career, researchers will have to organise, analyse and present an enormous amount of information and will have set goals and reviewed progress - and probably worked with others to encourage them to do the same. However, for many researchers and research leaders, these actions are not often contained within a cogent Project Management framework.
This focused webinar will equip researchers with professional applied project management skills and an overview of various project-planning tools and techniques. Dr Hutchinson will help participants build a tailored project approach that they can use with their own work and teams immediately and in any future projects. Specifically, participants will learn to:
• Identify the factors involved in planning, organizing and monitoring ‘successful’ research projects
• Strategic focus – contextualizing the project and understanding stakeholders
• Set and communicate the project objectives
• Identify risks and deal with issues within a project.
Trainer
Dr Steve Hutchinson started as a research biologist but realised quickly that his talents lay away from fish, flies and mathematical models. He turned his attention to academic development and led programmes and units at the Universities of York and Leeds. A second career change saw him setting up a company that helps academic and research leaders to grow and develop. He works internationally, mainly in the research sector but also in the corporate and not-for-profit sector - partly designing and delivering programmes of leadership development, but also as an executive and leadership coach. He's co-authored or edited five books as well as numerous articles and chapters.
