Researcher Career Development Programme

Researcher Career Development Programme

TU Dublin offers a wide range of formal and informal training events for all its researchers. Please visit the Research Workshop and Courses page for a full list of training events available to researchers starting in September 2024.

You can also email Gerolmina Di Nardo, Researcher Career Development Manager at researcherdevelopment@tudublin.ie to find out about all the excellent development opportunities available to researchers in TU Dublin.

On joining TU Dublin:

  • You will be invited to attend a TU Dublin Welcome Event.
  • You should meet with your PI to begin the process of developing a Researcher Career Development Plan. Postdoctoral Researchers should have their first Researcher Career Development Plan meeting within the first three months.
  • You should make contact with the Research Support Office to keep up to date with all funding opportunities and processes.
  • You should attend the Researcher Networking Event organised by the Researcher Career Development Manager.
  • You should attend the Researcher Networking Cafe' organised by the Researcher Career Development Manager to meet other colleagues across various disciplines in TU Dublin.

Using the Researcher Career Development Framework and the Researcher Career Development Plan and through conversations with your PI and other colleagues you should identify training and development gaps related to both an immediate priority (e.g. your work on a specific research project/s) and your longer term career aspirations. You are encouraged to attend our Workshops & Events which are specifically organised for researchers and research active staff. When you complete 25 hours of training, you will be able to apply for the Researcher Career Stage Certificate of Completion.

Typically a postdoctoral researcher/early career researcher is concerned with applying for research funding as a stepping stone on the road to independence. So becoming familiar with relevant funders and the requirements of their funding schemes is a goal all postdoctoral and early-career researchers are likely to have. Make sure to make contact with the Research Support Services to keep up to date with all funding calls throughout the year.

See the Workshop and Courses page for a full list of training events available to Researchers.

Researchers can also attend any of the training organised for TU Dublin employees by People Development. The People Development - Current Events page provides a live list of all training currently available.

TU Dublin operates a Fee Support Scheme (for externally provided programmes) and a Fee Waiver Scheme (for internally provided programmes).

All researchers can apply for one of these schemes if they meet the basic criteria. Please send your application form to peopledevelopment@tudublin.ie and ensure to inform Gerolmina Di Nardo, Researcher Career Development Manager at researcherdevelopment@tudublin.ie.

People Development offers a comprehensive programme of wellbeing and health promotion initiatives to support colleagues of the University.

TU Dublin offers its employees and families an Employee Assistance Service (EAS) which is a free and confidential counselling and information service operated by Spectrum Life.
