Dr. Maureen Walsh is a lecturer in Chemistry, and has over 20 years experience in teaching and research. Her areas of expertise are Inorganic chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology and Drug Formulation. She is a member of the Molecular Design and Synthesis (MDS) Group, which is part of the CASH centre. Over the years she has lead an active research group in the area of metal-based drugs, and has collaborated with national, international and industrial partners. She has supervised 9 PhD students and 3 MSc students.
Currently Maureen is PI on a research project in partnership with Trinity Biotech. She received her PhD under the guidance of Prof. Conor Long at DCU, in 1994, and was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Photochemistry, Mulheim, Germany from 1995-1997. She worked in industry from 1997 – 2000, and then joined IT Tallaght as a lecturer in 2000.
Key Research Interests & Synthetic Expertise
- Synthetic coordination chemistry with a focus on biological applications, in particular antimicrobial resistance and superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase mimics; Development of antimicrobial technologies, e.g, surface coatings, paints and washes; Drug preformulation studies.
