Lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering Department, TU Dublin, Tallaght, 2001 – present. Fiona McEvoy lectures in Mechanics & Biomechanics at TU Dublin. Fiona graduated with a BENG Hons (1992) & PhD (1996) in Aeronautical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. Her PhD was funded by Bombardier and Fiona was also awarded the Amelia Earhart Scholarship 1992. Following on from the PhD, Fiona worked for an engineering consultancy firm “Engineering Solutions International Limited”, specialising in FEA and CFD on contracts for the European Space agency and for many other companies from 1994-1996. In 1996, Fiona joined Materials Ireland at Trinity College Dublin continued to work with Finite element software packages modelling of metal forming and modelling of mechanical and bioengineering problems. In 1998, Fiona worked as Supply Quality Engineering Manager for Motorola Limited, managing a large team and a large supply base. From there Fiona moved to TU Dublin (formerly known as IT Tallaght). Fiona’s lecturing activity is predominantly in Mechanics, Biomechanics and Bioengineering. Fiona was awarded a certificate in “Medical Sciences” at the RCSI, September 2006. Fiona along with a few colleagues set up the Bioengineering Technology centre in 2008. Since then, she has supervised MEng degree students, Masters and PhD students in the areas of biomechanics of the spine, ankle, hip and Achilles tendon.
Key Research Interests - Biomechanical Investigation of Calcium Phosphate Constructs & Fixation Techniques used in Kyphoplasty; Analysis of the mechanical factors involved in aseptic loosening of the acetabular cup; Scoliosis Surgery Characterisation; Development of a mechanical device to assist in the rehabilitation of Achilles tendon injuries
