Dr Colin Bright is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technological University Dublin. Dr Bright’s PhD research focussed on the development of techniques to mechanically characterise common spinal stress fractures and was funded by the Irish Research Council’s EMBARK award. As an early independent investigator Dr Bright is examining Adjacent Level Degeneration (ALD) a chronic spinal condition which can occur following spinal fusion surgery. This work aims to characterise the strain fields in the spinal bone adjacent to the fused levels along with the changes in intervertebral disc pressure. Dr Bright also brings his 10 years’ experience as a Design Engineer and Project Manager in access solutions for power generation, transport, and aviation to the department of Mechanical Engineering.
