Dr. Andrew O’Connor is an assistant lecturer in the School of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical science at TU Dublin, Tallaght. He completed his PhD in Infection Biology in University College Dublin under the supervision of Dr. Siobhán McClean and funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC). His research focused on investigating the role of low oxygen activated encoded proteins during chronic infection in cystic fibrosis. During this project, he worked on respiratory pathogens including Burkholderia cepacia complex and non-tuberculosis Mycobacterium abscessus. He has also worked as an analytical scientist in vaccines in the Manufacturing, Science & Technology (MSAT) area in a prominent pharmaceutical company.
His key research interests include chronic infection, respiratory pathogens, vaccine candidate identification and development, molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and host-pathogen interactions.
