Geraldine Mitchell is a lecturer in German on the Tallaght campus of TU Dublin and has taught at Third Level for over 30 years. After her undergraduate studies at UCD, Geraldine spent almost six years living in Berlin and experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and German reunification in 1990.
Geraldine has taught German on undergraduate programmes in Engineering, Science, Business and Humanities. In recent years she has also supported students with Academic English writing.
On foot of a Teaching and Learning Support Fellowship, in 2013 she co-founded with two colleagues The Culture Xchange @ TU Dublin on the Tallaght campus. This initiative supported the enhancement of the semester abroad experience for incoming Erasmus students; contributes to cultural awareness through a series of ‘Culture Bite’ slides on e-boards in the college and has engaged in outreach through the highly successful annual Christmas Market on campus.
In 2021 Geraldine was awarded a Diploma in Scripture through distance learning by the Priory Institute. In September of 2022, she commenced her PhD studies under the supervision of Dr Eamon Maher. Her comparative study based around Crime and Punishment encompasses the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), the German pastor and Hitler opponent Dietrich Bonhoeffer as well as the Rebus novels of Ian Rankin. She hopes to bring awareness of Dietrich Bonhoeffer to a wider community.
