Elaine Mahon is a lecturer in culinary arts, gastronomy and food studies at the School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology at Technological University Dublin. A previous recipient of the Fáilte Ireland Applied Research Scholarship, she was awarded a PhD for her research on Irish state entertainment and diplomatic protocol. She has published and presented widely on the role of dining in international relations.
Current research interests focus on Irish food history, French gastronomy, identity and material culture. She is on the organising committee of the Dublin Gastronomy Symposium and a trustee of the Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery where she coordinates the Young Chefs programme. She represents TU Dublin in the European Culinary Education Network and the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme.
In addition to lecturing and supervision roles, she is currently co-editing a special edition of Food, Culture & Society as well as working on a monograph entitled ‘The Minister requests the pleasure: Irish diplomatic dining, 1922-1963’.
