IPA PhD Researcher. IPA, Mentoring & Female Leadership development in HEIs

Trish Ganly is a PhD research scholar in TU Dublin and an awardee of a 2021 Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship. As a pracademic, Trish brings a wealth of real-world experience balanced with academic understanding into the areas of mentoring, leadership development, change management and coaching. Before embarking on her PhD studies, Trish was an Associate Faculty of the Irish Management Institute, lectured on the MBA programme in IBAT College Dublin, supervised dissertation students, and practiced leadership coaching. Trish has extensive industry experience, working across a variety of sectors including financial services (e.g. AIB Bank, Bank of Ireland Lifetime), health, education (e.g. IBAT College Dublin, IMI), telecoms and management consultancy - both in Ireland and Europe.

The working title of her research is: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Leadership Mentoring of Women Mentees in an Irish Higher Education context, positioned at the intersection of mentoring at work (Kram, 1983), positive relationships at work (Ragins & Dutton, 2007), relational science (Bersheid, 1999) and educational leadership (Gunter, 2022). Trish has a particular interest in amplifying the voice and experience of women in the workplace, spotlighting relationality and enablement of growth-fostering relationships as key strengths in leadership practice. Deviating from the classic IPA single perspective study, in her PhD, to the complexity of a multiperspectival research design, Trish has developed a deep knowledge of IPA, its theoretical underpinnings and practical application.

Trish is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin – BSc (Computer Science) and MSc Management (Organisation Behaviour); Open University - BSc (Psychology); Kingstown College - Advanced Diploma in Personal & Executive Coaching; TU Dublin - MA (Higher Education); a Chartered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland, a member of the Division of Work & Organisational Psychology (DWOP), and a member of the Special Interest Group (SIG) in Coaching Psychology.
