Muhammad Aitzaz Akram is a dedicated and experienced biochemist with a strong educational background and a passion for research in the field of biochemistry and biotechnology. He completed his M.Phil. in Biochemistry from PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (2017-2019), following his BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from Govt. College University, Faisalabad (2013- 2017). In conjunction with His M.Phil. degree in Biochemistry, he holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, which has significantly enriched his educational profile. B.Ed. degree is particularly noteworthy as it serves as a prominent teacher training qualification and a professional degree.

Area of interest

Industrial Biotechnology, Microbiology and Microbial metabolism; Molecular Biology, Bioprocessing; Bioremediation; Extraction of APCs, Teaching & Mentoring:

Research Description

Mr. Aitzaz's research approach integrates microbiology, molecular biology, genome sciences, and bioprocess engineering. His research has focused on developing applications for biodegradable systems by using microbes and enzymes. He has also investigated microbial and enzymatic degradation of synthetic dyes. He has isolated fungi and enzymes that can specifically biodegrade both Natural and synthetic dyes. He with team Green Chemistry Biocatalysis is investigating microbial and enzymatic degradation of synthetic plastics (Polypropylene, Polybutylene succinate, Polybutylene-Adipate Terephthalate, Polycaprolactone, Polyethylene succinate, etc…).

Professional Experience:

His career trajectory in biochemistry spans various impactful roles. Before joining Green Chemistry Biocatalysis at TU Dublin, IE he worked as a Lab Supervisor at Metropole Laboratories Pvt Ltd., Islamabad, a clinical diagnostics and research laboratory (2023). He also worked as a Research Associate at the National Center of Industrial Biotechnology for Pilot Scale Manufacturing of Bioproducts using Synthetic and Metabolic Engineering technologies at PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, and as a Teacher Assistant at the University Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology- PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. He has contributed to significant projects, including the work on biodegradation of textile dyes, biomarker identification in cancer research, and industrial application of pectinase.
