About

Dr. Giuseppe Ruvio was a Research Fellow affiliated with CTVR - The Telecommunications Research Centre, Trinity College Dublin. His research activity was focused on tag/anchor antenna design for UWB localization systems, LTE antennas and MIMO configurations for portable devices, broadband circularly polarized antennas and microwave breast cancer imaging.

He has established strong operative collaborations with Seconda Università di Napoli, the DIT School of Physics, Ireland, the National University of Ireland in Galway (NUIG) and the University of Manitoba, Canada.

Networking initiatives were carried out through the European Cooperation in Science and Technology COST actions ASSIST and COST VISTA, respectively. For joint research activities, Dr. Ruvio was awarded funds to sustain two Short Term Scientific Missions in 2010 and 2012 at the Second University of Naples. Their outcomes were then presented as invited contributions at the 9th COST ASSIST Working Groups workshop in March 2011 and at the 5th COST VISTA Working Groups workshop in May 2013.

For his research activity of RF breast cancer detection he was invited to contribute to the convened session on “UWB Antennas for Imaging/Medical” at the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) in March 2009 and as invited speaker at Kore University of Enna, Italy, for the seminar “Small antenna design and characterisation” in 2011.

In his postdoctoral experience Dr. Ruvio was awarded the following fellowships:
- Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund for the project "Efficiently Optimised LTE Antennas (EOLA)";
- Arnold F. Graves Fellowship for a research project on antenna solutions for microwave breast cancer imaging.

He was appointed in November 2013 Communication Officer in the COST action TD1301 “Development of a European-based Collaborative Network to Accelerate Technological, Clinical and Commercialisation Progress in the Area of Medical Microwave Imaging”.

Dr. Ruvio completed his PhD in October 2008 with the thesis “Antennas for Portable Communications in the UWB and GPS Spectra”. His research was funded by the Centre for Telecommunications Value-chain Research Centre. He joined the DIT following two years with the R&D department at Sigma Wireless Ltd (Ireland) in the framework of a European Space Agency ARTES 5 project on electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) base station antennas.

Dr. Ruvio completed his Laurea Degree from the Università di Siena, Italy, in 2002. As part of the degree, he undertook a nine month secondment to Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden to work on guided transmission applications with Hard and Soft surfaces.
