Project Title: A Competency Framework for The Architectural Technology Profession in the Energy Retrofit Sector in Ireland
Supervisors: Dr. Róisín Murphy
Traditionally the role of the architectural technologist has been linked directly to the role of the architect, however that is changing as a separation opens between art and science. For architectural technologists there is an opportunity to reflect and define what their role is going forward.
The aim of the study is to investigate the role of architectural technologists in energy retrofit and building performance in practice and create a framework to help facilitate the development of this role.
The research objectives are:
- To critically evaluate the role of the architectural technology profession in Ireland (literature).
- To determine the type, scope and engagement of architectural technologists in energy retrofit (surveys and interviews).
- To determine the skills, knowledge and competencies required to deliver successful energy retrofit projects (literature).
- To carry out a gap analysis between the current and required knowledge, skills and competencies required for architectural technologists working in the area of energy retrofit (surveys and interviews).
- To develop a competencies framework that defines skills, knowledge and competencies for architectural technologists working in energy retrofit in order identify future and current training needs.
- To develop a process framework to guide the practice of architectural technologists in the area of energy retrofit to facilitate collaboration and communication with other stakeholders.
