Project Title: Towards Leadership development in the AEC sector: An Exploration of Professional Leadership in Architecture
Supervisors: Dr Roisin Murphy (PI), Dr Oluwasegun Seriki
This project aims to explore the leadership characteristics of those working in the architecture sector of construction. An area underserved in the context of leadership studies. Architecture as a professional service is the starting point of many construction projects as a result leadership decisions made by architects can and likely will have lasting effects not just throughout the construction process but throughout the lifecycle of the building. Through interviews with experienced leaders, along with a sector wide survey of individuals working in architecture, this research aims to develop an understanding of the attributes deemed important to effective leadership in architecture. Using the information gathered from the interviews and survey, the research will attempt to develop a leadership framework specific to the sector, which in turn may be operationalised to inform leadership training and development initiatives.
