Santos is the Chair of the MSc in Geographic Information Science and Lecturer in Geomatics at Technological University Dublin. His research focuses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Spatial Analysis and Mapping with over 30 related publications, two patents and over €300,000 raised in research funding.
He was a Marie Curie Post-Doc Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science in TU Dublin, where he worked on a collaborative data analytics research project with the Valuation Office of Ireland, funded by Enterprise Ireland and the European Commission. Before joining TU Dublin, he worked for a decade at University of Oviedo (Spain). In 2014, he completed a research stay at the National Centre for Scientific Research of France (CNRS).
His PhD Thesis was awarded by ESRI as the best GIS research of 2015, the work was published three years later and it is catalogued by the Library of Congress and the British Library, among others. In addition, he was acknowledged as a Google Research Cloud Innovator in 2022.
