Noel J. Brady has over 30 years of Academic (TU Dublin) and award-winning Practice (NJBA A+ U).  Noel’s master’s thesis, Towards the Poetic (MIT, 1989), focused on design method while his MBA consultative project, Designs on Business (DIT, 2018), sought to build a framework for designers pivoting to new business models.  He has written on a wide array of Architectural subjects including Dublin by Design (O’Brien Press 2020), co-edited with Dr. Sandra O’Connell.  He is Programme Chair for Architecture at TU Dublin where he also teaches on Whole Life (Integrated) Design (Theory), Collaborative Design Studio (Practice), and History Theory & Criticism.  He is currently enrolled on a PhD focusing on Boundary Objects in an Expanded Field.

His academic research includes design enquiry such as:

  • The Roots of Order - Eileen Gray, (2005, a curated student research for The (Irish) National Museum)
  • Iron in the Soul, (2011, a study of Mies van der Rohe’s cruciform columns)
  • The Deserted Village (2015, a study of the architectonic nature of the abandoned village on Achill Island).

More recently he has led the formation of Hybrid Lab, (http://hybridlab.ie/) a research unit within SABE to investigate hybrid thinking, design and technologies in architecture. 

He is currently collaborating on a number of research proposals

  • A Demountable Research Building (HybridLab)
  • An Urban Mapping Tool
  • A Modular Solution for Sustainable Energy Retrofits
