Published: 4 Apr, 2025

The National Construction Summit 2025, held at the Sport Ireland Campus in Blanchardstown, Dublin, concluded yesterday after two days of insightful discussions and networking. The event brought together key players from the construction industry, government, and academia to explore the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing the sector. Central to the conversations were sustainable construction practices, accelerating housing delivery, and the journey towards a decarbonised built environment.

A significant presence at the summit was the ARISE team and TU Dublin Innovation, who showcased TU Dublin’s extensive expertise in research, industry collaboration, and innovation at Stand I9. The team engaged with visitors, detailing our cutting-edge research and industry partnerships that are contributing to advancements in the construction sector.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet Sudeepth Nair who is the Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Business Development Manager and the others members of the ARISE team, including: Brian Walsh, Mohamed Oubaha, Ruth McAdams, Sudeepth Nair, Willie White, Andy Maguire and Laura Cruise and Sorcha Hyland from the TU Dublin Innovation office. The team were available to discuss the transformative role of industry-academia partnerships and how their work is helping to shape the future of Ireland’s construction landscape, particularly in the realms of sustainability and technological integration.

The discussions at this year’s summit were focused on the future of the construction industry, with special attention on the evolving landscape of planning regulations, sustainable building solutions, and the acceleration of housing projects. These topics align closely with the work being done at TU Dublin, where research and innovation are continually being harnessed to address the challenges facing the sector.

Dr Shawna Johnston - Knowledge Transfer Case Manager at TU Dublin Innovation presented ‘Collaborative Funding Opportunities for SMEs,’ which provided valuable insights into how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can tap into funding and support to drive innovation and sustainable growth within the construction industry.

The National Construction Summit 2025 provided a unique platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, with TU Dublin at the forefront of conversations on how research and innovation can address the sector’s evolving needs. As the industry continues to face challenges related to climate change, urbanisation, and infrastructure development, the contributions of collaborative projects are becoming increasingly important in driving sustainable change.

With the summit now concluded, both TU Dublin Innovation and ARISE are eager to continue building on the relationships and ideas sparked during the event.
