The TU Dublin Conservatoire recently marked an exciting collaboration with the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco. This partnership was highlighted during the library’s 40th anniversary celebration on November 20th, where a commemorative book in memory of Princess Grace was launched. The event was attended by Prince Albert II of Monaco and HRH Princess of Hanover.

Dr Helen Lawlor, a Lecturer from the TU Dublin Conservatoire played a pivotal role in the collaboration, researching the library’s collection of Irish-American music scores. These scores were particularly significant as they were acquired by Princess Grace in the 1970s, reflecting her deep commitment to her Irish heritage.

Commenting on the project; Dr Lawlor said:

It has been an incredible privilege to contribute to this project, researching the unique collection of Irish-American music scores at the Princess Grace Irish Library. Princess Grace’s deep connection to her Irish heritage is a testament to the enduring bond between Ireland and Monaco, and I am honoured to have played a part in preserving and sharing this cultural legacy.

The collaboration followed the IRC-funded Irish-American Music Cultures Symposium at TU Dublin, where Dr. Lawlor worked alongside the staff and students from both the TU Dublin Conservatoire and the Académie Rainier III Musique & Theatre in Monaco. Together, they recorded selections from these music scores for inclusion in the commemorative book.

Dr. Lawlor, alongside Dr Kerry Houston, Head of Academic Studies at the TU Dublin Conservatoire, was honoured to attend the launch of the book in Monaco, marking a meaningful cultural exchange between Ireland and Monaco.

Dr. Kerry Houston, commented that:

The opportunity to collaborate with such esteemed institutions and be part of this significant celebration of Princess Grace’s legacy has been a truly enriching experience. The project reflects the power of music to connect cultures, and we are proud to have worked alongside our colleagues in Monaco to bring these remarkable pieces to life.
