Research Support Services Year in Review
Research Support Services (RSS) had a hectic year in 2023. We are coming to end of a series of projects some of which have taken many years to reach maturity.
Organisational Re-Design
In common with everybody else in the University, RSS is in the final throes of its organisational re-design. The new design is based around the results of the service survey we carried out in 2021 and allows us to address some of the services researchers identified in that survey. In particular, restructuring the Service into distinct service teams allows us to provide a much more professional and specialised service directly responding to researchers needs. (See below).
PURE
A key part of the RSS re-design has been the rolling out of ‘new RIS’. ‘New RIS’ is based on Elsevier’s PURE product and OD has allowed us to spin that and similar other related systems out into a new ‘Common Services Unit’ that will support existing and new tools for researchers in TU Dublin.
Proposals and Awards
2023 has continued to be a busy year in terms of new research proposals and awards. As of 12/12/2023, there have been 311 new proposals registered in RIS, that double what was prepared just 5 years ago. Whoever said ‘TUs don’t really do research’ is not looking at our figures. Similarly, 2023 also saw an overall 40+% increase in award value over the last 5 years, that figure hides some spectacular changes, award values from industry are up 3000% and SFI up nearly 5 fold. This is a sure sign that TU Dublin continues to be a real research power in the land.
