The Munin Conference is an annual conference on scholarly publishing and communication, primarily revolving around open access, open data, and open science. The 19th Munin Conference on Scholarly Publishing is taking place from November 26th to 28th in Tromsø, Norway

As part of this year’s conference, Aisling Coyne, Open Research Librarian at TU Dublin, alongside Sarah Coombs (Research Support Advisor for Saxion University of Applied Science) will be leading two workshops, presenting the game they have co-created with Katrine Sundsbø (Community Manager at DOAJ), “What about Open Science?”. The game was developed using their UKSG Innovation Award  which was awarded to them in 2023.

“What about Open Science?” is a competitive Open Educational Resource game designed to create discussion around common open science concepts and ideas that everyone should understand but do not always fully grasp. This workshop is suitable for all audiences with, or without previous understanding of open science. Through this game participants are introduced to the key concepts for discussion of open science, what that means for them and their institution, and what concrete steps they can take to make a difference going forward as part of the open science movement. The aim of the workshop is not only to play the game to enhance knowledge but to facilitate playing it in institutions everywhere with implicit advocacy for Open Science built in. Participants do not need to prepare for this workshop in advance.

Aisling, Sarah and Katrine would like to extend their thanks to Gavan Cleary, from GROWTHhub, for 3D printing the wheel which forms an integral part of the game.
