ESB Exhibition: Celebrating 50 Years of Renewable Energy at Turlough Hill

Published: 7 Nov, 2024

Library Services is pleased to host the ESB Exhibition Celebrating 50 Years of Renewable Energy at Turlough Hill. Turlough Hill Station; Ireland’s only pumped storage power station, located in the scenic Wicklow Mountains, was brought into commercial operation by ESB in 1974. This innovative project was the largest civil engineering operation ever undertaken in the country when construction began in 1968.

2024 marks 50 years of renewable energy generation at Turlough Hill. Today, the station continues to play an integral role in the delivery of clean energy. The photographic exhibition tells the story of this unique generating station, and the feats of engineering archived in its construction and operation. The exhibition features a series of photographs from the ESB Archive collection and celebrates local industrial heritage.

The exhibition is available to view in Bolton Street Library during library opening hours from 7th-20th November 2024. No prior booking required.
