1916 Bursary
The 1916 Bursary is funded by the Department of Education and Skills for eligible applicants to TU Dublin. In 2021/22 there are 25 bursaries of €5,000 per annum for the duration of applicant’s undergraduate studies in TU Dublin, up to four years for full time undergraduate programmes and six years for part time undergraduate programmes.
The bursary aims to provide support to applicants from a socio economically disadvantage background who are also from a group(s) underrepresented in higher education, including:
• First time – new entrant Mature Student applicants
• Applicants with a Disability, particularly applicants with a Physical / Mobility Impairment or applicants with a Sensory Disability, applicants who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, applicants who are Blind or visually impaired
• Irish Travellers (10% of the bursaries reserved for this category)
• Entering TU Dublin on the basis of a further education award
• Lone parents (20% of the bursaries reserved for this category)
• Ethnic Minorities
• Currently or previously in the Care of the State /Tusla
• Socio economic groups underrepresented in Higher education
Eligibility Criteria
• Applicants must be able to provide evidence of socio-economic disadvantage.
• Applicants must be new entrants to higher education and in year 1 of their undergraduate programme.
• Applicants must be attending a full-time or part-time undergraduate course that:
• Takes not less than two years to complete;
• On the successful completion of which, is awarded a major higher education and training award at level 6 or above on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
• Part-time undergraduate programmes must be undertaking not less than 30 credits for the 21/22 academic year.
• Applicants need to meet the residency and current immigration status or have permission to remain in the State.
• Applicants must have been resident in the Irish State for three of the past five years on the date on which a year of study commences.
Division of bursaries:
• 50% of the bursaries will be reserved for those who have submitted an individual application form.
• 50% of the bursaries will be reserved for those who have submitted an individual application form and also have been nominated by a TU Dublin Community Partner.
