TU Dublin Welcomes Dutch Delegation for an International Exchange on Business and Cultural Insights
Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) was honoured to host a distinguished delegation from Avans University of Applied Sciences, including the Dutch Ambassador to Ireland, Her Excellency Maaike van Koldam, as well as students and faculty from Avans' Den Bosch campus. Taking place on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, the visit to the University's School of Global Business on the Blanchardstown Campus highlighted the strong educational and economic connections between Ireland and the Netherlands.
The day-long programme was designed to foster cultural and academic exchange through a series of discussions, lectures, and workshops focused on business ethics, intercultural understanding, and global marketing practices. The event began with a speech from Ambassador van Koldam, who spoke about the value of Ireland-Netherlands partnerships within the EU context.
"Our collaboration with Avans University of Applied Sciences showcases the strength of international ties within the Erasmus+ programme and underscores the importance of global cooperation in education," said Professor Doran. "By engaging in this exchange, our students not only gain practical insights into international business but also foster the values of inclusion and cultural understanding central to TU Dublin and Avans."
Commenting on the visit to TU Dublin, Avans Lecturer Daan Zijlstra said," "Avans University of Applied Sciences is thrilled to visit TU Dublin, where 66 of our Dutch students will collaborate with their Irish counterparts. This initiative aims to foster cultural awareness and mutual learning, enriching the educational experience for all involved. We believe that through this exchange, students will gain invaluable insights and hopefully build lasting connections that transcend borders."
This visit comes at a time of robust economic relations between Ireland and the Netherlands, with trade in goods and services exceeding €55 billion annually. The Netherlands is Ireland's largest export market within the EU and the third-largest globally, with key sectors including agri-food, technology, and pharmaceuticals. TU Dublin's partnership with Avans University builds on this economic foundation, promoting skill development and industry engagement in high-growth fields like renewable energy, technology, and digital transformation.
Throughout the day, students and faculty engaged in academic sessions led by TU Dublin and Avans educators, exploring topics such as business law and ethics. These workshops provided a platform for exchanging best practices in applied and technological education, hallmarks of Avans' award-winning programmes.
With over 250,000 Dutch visitors to Ireland each year and an expanding network of partnerships between Irish and Dutch businesses, this event emphasises the enduring connection between the two nations. Both universities look forward to continuing this collaboration, supporting students and faculty in their development as global leaders.
