TU Dublin Hosts Successful Deep Learning Workshop for Students Across All Campuses
On Monday, January 15th, The School of Enterprise Computing and Digital Transformation in TU Dublin hosted an engaging and insightful NVIDIA instructor led workshop on fundamentals deep learning led by Dr Keith Quille and supported by Dr Keith Nolan, Dr Rajesh Jaiswal, Roisin Faherty, Michael Murphy, Enda Lee, Margaret Finnegan and Dr Abdelsalam Busalim, open to all students across its three campuses. The event, which saw over 100 registrations, aimed to equip students with essential skills in deep learning and potentially earn NVIDIA certification, valued at $500, for the fundamentals of deep learning course.
Spanning from first-year undergraduates to PhD students, participants delved into the intricacies of deep learning through practical exercises in computer vision and natural language processing. Led by experienced instructors, attendees learned to develop deep learning models from scratch, employing various techniques to achieve high accuracy.
The workshop emphasized hands-on learning, providing students with the tools and tricks necessary to navigate the complexities of deep learning effectively. Participants gained proficiency in training deep learning models, familiarizing themselves with diverse data types and model architectures. Moreover, they learned to optimize datasets through data augmentation, enhancing model accuracy.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the exploration of transfer learning, a technique enabling efficient results with reduced data and computational requirements. By leveraging pre-trained models, students discovered how to expedite the development process and deploy deep learning applications swiftly.
Reflecting on the event, organizers expressed satisfaction with the turnout and engagement of students from various academic backgrounds. The workshop not only equipped attendees with valuable skills but also instilled confidence to embark on independent deep learning projects using modern frameworks.
As TU Dublin continues to foster innovation and excellence in education, events like these serve as crucial platforms for students to explore emerging technologies and expand their skill sets for the modern world of Digital Transformation. With deep learning poised to revolutionize numerous industries, the university remains committed to providing students with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in the digital age.
