TU Dublin Graduates Shine in the Global Film Industry
As the 97th Academy Awards take place this weekend, we would like to celebrate our graduates who work in the Film and TV industry.
In recent years, graduates from TU Dublin have been making significant strides in the film industry, showcasing their talent and dedication on both national and international stages. From winning prestigious awards to contributing to high-profile productions, these graduates are a testament to our media and film programmes.
Not many Irish people have been nominated for, and even fewer have won, Oscars. However, several TU Dublin graduates have achieved high-profile awards, including Emmys and BAFTAs. Here are a few notable alumni
- Actor Domhnall Gleeson has been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA and IFTA awards. Domhnall starred in Brooklyn which was nominated for an Oscar.
- PJ Dillon has won a Primetime Emmy for Cinematography, as well as many other awards/nominations. He has worked on Game of Thrones
- Colm Bairéad is a Director and Screenwriter and has been nominated for an Oscar for An Cailín Ciúin. Colm has won three IFTAs (Best Director/Best Film/Screen Ireland IFTA Rising Star)
- Director John Moore's most famous film Behind Enemy Lines with Gene Hackman. John has also been nominated for various awards.
- Damien O'Donnell Director and Producer has won a BAFTA for East is East
- Simon Fitzmaurice, the Late Writer and Film Director
Many of our Graduates have been nominated for IFTAs, here are some of them:
- Frank Berry has won three IFTAs (Best Director/ Best Film and Best Script)
- Macdara Kelleher, Writer and Director
- Ian Power, Writer and Director
- Stephen Burke, Director
