Notice to TU Dublin Alumni: Seanad Éireann Electoral Expansion Scheme
In a landmark development, significant changes have been made to how six senators are elected to Seanad Éireann. The reform, introduced last year, establishes a new six-seat 'Higher Education' constituency, allowing more third-level graduates to vote in Seanad elections.
This new constituency replaces the traditional National University of Ireland (NUI) and University of Dublin (Trinity College Dublin) constituencies, extending voting rights to all graduates of higher education institutions who hold Irish citizenship. This change will include graduates from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institution of Technology Tallaght (ITT), and Institution of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) in the electoral process.
While the election for Seanad Éireann currently happening will use the existing NUI Register of Electors, the registration process is now open to our graduates wishing to be added to the new register, which will be published on the 1st of April 2025.
