TU Dublin Students finish in Top 5 of Universities at CaseIT 2020

CaseIT is an annual international undergraduate Management Information Systems (MIS) business case competition seeking to find the best and brightest students in case analysis.

Four Final Year College of Business students represented TU Dublin at CaseIT 2020 in Vancouver; Chris Kavanagh studying BSc in Business Computing Sean Brophy, Claire Farrell and Lucy Gormley all final year students in BSc Business Analytics. 

Established in 2004, CaseIT offers students from all around the world the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge that they have obtained in the classroom to real-life business scenarios through strategic IT analysis and presentation. CaseIT brings together top undergraduate business students, distinguished faculty members, experienced industry professionals, and a dedicated student-run organizing committee to challenge conventional thinking and build global connections. The competition provides a rigorous platform to test students’ critical business case analysis capabilities and empower students to present with confidence in front of esteemed industry professionals on an international stage.

At the opening ceremony, Team TU Dublin were drawn into division three along with the University of Toronto, National University of Singapore and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The following day, the team won the first case of their division, a 5 hour case study for Spexi, a company who specialise in drone services.

Their second case was a 24 hour case study, based on Visier, a HR company that specialise in human analytics. They finished first again in their division with the maximum 100 points and progressed to the finals! 

The final was a presentation to a room filled with 200+ people and seven judges to include Microsoft executives, Visier board members , CGI consultants and lectures from Simon Fraser University.

Chris Kavanagh commented on the student experience 'We had an amazing week, we truly enjoyed every second of it. Throughout the week we further built a great network with students from all over the world. Overall the week was a massive success and a surreal experience that taught us so much more than we could have hoped for!''

Commenting on CaseIT 2020, Dr. Hugh O' Donnell, TU Dublin Head of Dept. Management Information Systems and also coach to the students said, “As first time participants in the competition for TU Dublin the team certainly did us proud, achieving first place in the introductory video competition, first place in Division in the 5 hour case, first place in Division in the 24 hour case and then to make it to the final was such a great victory!''
