Product Design Student Selected For Washington Ireland Program for Service and Leadership
Daniel Izquierdo Hijazi, a final-year Product Design student at TU Dublin, will join a class of 30 student participants representing the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland as part of the Washington Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) this year.
WIP inspires and develops promising leaders through an exceptional program committed to building a future of peace and prosperity for Northern Ireland and Ireland. For over two decades, WIP has brought together young leaders from a wide range of communities and backgrounds for outstanding leadership and skills-development program. Each year, WIP selects 30 talented students to join its network of leaders and influencers by completing a 12-month program of service and leadership development, which includes a summer in Washington DC or New York City. Notable WIP alums include Taoiseach (Leo Varadkar, WIP Class of 2000), Lord Mayor of Belfast (Nuala McAllister, WIP Class of 2010), and in Westminster (Emma Little-Pengelly, WIP Class of 2002).
Daniel has a keen interest in making a better world through innovation co-founding Micron Agritech. This TU Dublin spin-out company was featured in the Europe Startup 100 and is funded and backed by Enterprise Ireland. He also co-founded The Hydro Co, which won the Accenture Leaders of Tomorrow programme last year. Both of these companies aim to solve significant environmental and sustainability issues through solutions that make switching profitable.
Daniel has also worked extensively for the student body, winning the TU Dublin President’s Award and the Student Achievement Awards Ireland Outstanding Contribution to Student Media Award for his dedicated service.
