TU Dublin Hosts Switch on Apprenticeship Event with Local Schools

Published: 26 Mar, 2025

On March 20th, TU Dublin welcomed two local primary schools to our campus for a taster morning to experience various elements of craft apprenticeship in action. The Switch on Apprenticeship event aimed to introduce primary school students to the apprenticeships taught at TU Dublin's Linenhall campus near Bolton Street, including woodwork, plumbing, bricklaying and painting, providing them with hands-on experience and plenty of fun.

This event highlights TU Dublin's commitment to fostering early interest in apprenticeships and vocational training, ensuring that young students are aware of the diverse career paths available to them. The Switch on Apprenticeship morning left the pupils inspired and excited about the possibilities in the world of trades.

Deirdre Lillis, President of TU Dublin was in attendance, showing support for the initiative. Speaking to the students, she emphasised to the children that they should not feel intimidated by the idea of third-level education.

College isn't a scary place - you are all in college now. Think about this as one of the many opportunities ahead of you and follow your dreams

The event was also covered by RTÉ's children's news programme, news2day, with presenter Florence Okojie capturing the activities. The children were delighted to show off trying out different trades, interacting with lecturers, and speak to camera about their experiences.
