TU Dublin’s Caroline Ann O’Sullivan Appointed to the Arts Council Board

The Arts Council has announced the appointment of Dr Caroline Ann O'Sullivan, Head of the School of Media at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), as a new member of its Board. The appointment, made by Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, Catherine Martin, will span a five-year term.

Speaking about her appointment, Dr Caroline Ann O'Sullivan said, "I am absolutely honoured to be appointed to the Arts Council," said Dr Caroline Ann O’Sullivan. "I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to champion greater diversity within Ireland's arts sector in the years ahead."

Caroline's extensive academic achievements relating to many aspects of the arts and culture sector, together with her governance and oversight expertise, will be a terrific asset. Dr O'Sullivan previously served as co-director of the Centre for Creative Arts Research and Senior Lecturer in Creative Media at Dundalk Institute of Technology (2000–2017). She has lectured on Media and Film Studies, Digital Media Culture, Popular Music, and intersectional issues in Creative Media Industries. Holding a PhD in Sociology (Trinity College Dublin), an MSc in Multimedia (DCU), and a BA in Sociology and Information Science (UCD), Caroline has presented globally on topics such as gender and class in the music and screen industries, media literacy, online identity, and the night-time economy.

Her governance experience includes membership of the management committee for Honeycomb – Creative Works, a €5 million INTERREG IV project promoting creative industries in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. She currently serves on the steering committee of the European Live Music Mapping project and chairs the UK and Ireland branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
