TU Dublin Conservatoire's Professor Una Hunt Elected to the Royal Irish Academy

On Friday, 24 May 2024, Professor Una Hunt of TU Dublin Conservatoire was officially admitted to the Royal Irish Academy  (RIA) following an election earlier this year. Members are elected to the RIA for their exceptional contributions to the sciences, humanities and social sciences, as well as to public service. 

Professor Hunt's citation said. 

"Una Hunt is a professor of Performance Research at the Conservatoire, Technological University Dublin. She has made an outstanding contribution to music research, bringing international recognition to the history and repertoires of Irish music. A world-renowned concert pianist, her achievements attest to the importance of performance-led research in understanding, explaining and contextualising the work of Irish composers, musicians and songwriters, including Moore, Osborne, Stanford and Wallace."

Since its establishment in 1785, the Academy has been honouring Ireland’s leading contributors to the world of learning. Those elected by their peers are entitled to use the designation ‘MRIA’ after their name. 

Speaking at the admittance ceremony, Professor Pat Guiry, President of the Royal Irish Academy, said:

"Ireland should be immensely proud of these 28 women and men who have been elected by their peers and have brought international acclaim to our country through their distinct areas of research. As Members of the Royal Irish Academy, they will support and strengthen our capacity to achieve our strategic goals and objectives as we look to the launch of our Strategic Plan 2024-2028 in the coming weeks."
