TU Dublin celebrates over 14,000 CAO Round 1 offers, leading the way in accessibility and choice

Published: 6 Sep, 2024

TU Dublin, Ireland’s largest and most diverse technological university, is proud to announce that over 14,000 CAO Round 1 offers have been extended to more than 11,500 applicants for the 2024 academic year. Of these, over 10,500 offers were first preferences, reflecting the growing popularity of TU Dublin as a top choice for students wishing to attend its five campus locations.

The university remains committed to ensuring that higher education is accessible to all, with more than 2,700 offers made to applicants eligible for Access Entry Routes such as HEAR, DARE, and TU Dublin’s Access Foundation Programme. These initiatives are vital in supporting students from more challenging backgrounds to achieve their educational goals.

Senior Manager for Admissions, Bob Ó Mhurcú, said:

TU Dublin is proud to be Ireland’s most diverse university, and we provide multiple entry routes to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to pursue higher education. Our mission is to open doors for students from all walks of life, and the significant number of offers made through Access Entry Routes this year is a testament to that commitment

Among the standout successes this year is TU Dublin’s new Level 6 Business (General Entry) programme (TU678) – the university made over 1,150 offers for this programme, with more than 1,100 of these being first preferences. This programme’s popularity underscores the demand for flexible and accessible business education options that TU Dublin is proud to offer.

TU Dublin's campuses in Blanchardstown and Tallaght continue to be popular with commuting students. On TU Dublin’s Tallaght campus, the Level 8 Mechanical Engineering (General Entry) programme continues to excel, with the popular course setting records in applicants, first preferences, Round 1 points, and offers in 2024. This programme, first introduced in 2021, has quickly become a cornerstone of the university’s engineering offerings, attracting a high calibre of students eager to embark on a rewarding engineering career.

Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity programmes at TU Dublin’s Blanchardstown campus are also experiencing remarkable growth. Both the Level 7 TU758 and the Level 8 TU863 have seen substantial increases in applications and first preferences, reflecting the increasing demand for expertise in these critical and rapidly evolving fields.

TU Dublin also made a huge amount of offers to students who completed a QQI course (formerly called PLCs) or came through the mature entry route; 22.3% of all these offers nationwide were made by TU Dublin, further emphasising the university’s dedication to supporting diverse pathways and lifelong learning.

For those who may not have received an offer or are reconsidering their options, TU Dublin continues to provide opportunities through the CAO’s ‘Available Places facility’. With 26 programmes open for new applications, there are still many pathways for students to join TU Dublin and pursue their academic ambitions.
