TU Dublin Student Optical Fair - Helping Ireland See the Future
As the only provider of optometry education in Ireland, the inaugural TU Dublin Optical Fair was a unique opportunity to connect our Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing students with the wider optometry industry at the earliest stage of their careers.
By connecting students with current experts and innovators, we hoped to spark our students’ curiosity and broaden their vision of what lies ahead in their future careers.
From 1st year to 4th year, our students matched the generous spirit of qualified professionals willing to share their insights with their enthusiasm. Students came in their droves to what proved to be a vibrant and fun evening.
TU Dublin’s National Optometry Centre invited passionate representatives from a broad spectrum of the optical industry to show our students current innovations, to share recruitment opportunities, and to reveal their career pathways.
Rapid-fire presentations followed a lively exhibition in the Central Quad.
These presentations were delivered by cutting-edge equipment innovators, optical chains and franchisees, product specialists, ophthalmologists and software providers. Some of our recent TU Dublin graduates, now working at the top of their game, also shared their knowledge.
Thanks to Topcon, Zeiss, Essilor, Specsavers, Scope, Théa, Hakim Group, Ocuco, Med Surgical Zeiss, Keeler, Sedena/Bynocs, and our professional bodies - Optometry Ireland and the Irish Association of Dispensing Opticians for their participation.
The National Optometry Centre would like to acknowledge TU Dublin’s Career Development Centre and TU Dublin Foundation’s input into the event and the School of Physics, Clinical and Optometric Sciences for having the vision to create it.
A massive thanks to the dedicated National Optometry Centre team, who helped pull the event together.
Some incredible prizes were donated on the night for our eye-opening challenge winners. Given the animated exchanges between students, seasoned professionals and recent graduates, the future of eyecare in Ireland appears bright.
We’re hoping we get to do it all again!
