TU Dublin Hosts Over 130 EUt+ Colleagues For Key Summit

Friday, 28 April 2023: The Dublin Campus of the European University of Technology (EUt+) hosted over 100 colleagues from seven European countries this week, with events taking place across two of the TU Dublin campuses in Grangegorman and Tallaght. The President of TU Dublin, Professor David FitzPatrick, warmly welcomed attendees to the event, which was followed by presentations by Jennifer Boyer, VP of Sustainability and Thomas Stone, VP of Partnerships.

The busy Dublin agenda comprised conferences, workshops, and informal working sessions where colleagues discussed a range of matters, including plans to develop a joint EUt+ education strategic vision, policies and guidelines and the creation of future clusters development. In addition, as the initiative prepares for the next phase of the project - EUt+ Accelerate - an education strategic roadmap will be created exploring how TU Dublin's University Education Model may inform the EUT+ education strategy as it develops.

At the Rector's meeting, Prof Dr Arnd Steinmetz, h_da, reported from a session of the Rectors of European Universities Alliances, which noted the leadership role of EUt+ in establishing guidelines leading to a future European Framework. The meeting was also briefed on the Joint European Degree Label in Engineering (JEDI), the EUt+ Status and Structure Experience (STYX), and an EUt+ presence at international education fairs.

Reflecting on the Dublin week, John O'Connor, Strategic Lead, European University of Technology at TU Dublin, said, "As we approach the end of phase 1 of this groundbreaking project to establish a truly European University, we were delighted to welcome over 130 EUt+ colleagues and external partners to our campuses here in Grangegorman and Tallaght. It was a busy week with Work Package teams gathering to finalise key deliverables concerning common European curricula, which included a workshop on developing EUt+ harmonised degrees with TU Dublin by Dr Paul Stacey. The development of knowledge and research clusters and embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles in everything we do, was also top of our agenda."

Continuing, Mr O'Connor said, "EUt+ members were also invited to seminars, talks and campus tours presented by TU Dublin colleagues, including an overview of student entrepreneurship GROWTHhub by Dr Paul O'Reilly, a presentation of the research conducted within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities by Dr Conor McGarrigle and tours of research facilities across TU Dublin's campus network, led by Dr Mary Deasy, Professor Jesús María Frías Celayeta, Professor Hugh Byrne and Dr Philippe Lemarchand. We also welcomed the Irish Universities Association, Director, Learning & Teaching and Academic Affairs, Lewis Purser, who spoke about the strategic importance of the European Universities initiative.”

Guests were also had the opportunity to experience the wide range of disciplines offered by TU Dublin, which included a recital from the Conservatoire's Traditional Ensemble, and an invitation to the regular Thursday lunchtime performance in the East Quad Concert Hall. In addition, the Head of Culinary Arts and Food Technology, Dr Denise O'Leary, hosted a lunch for the Rectors Board in the Musgrave Marketplace Training Restaurant at which TU Dublin’s Dr Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire gave a talk on Irish Gastronomy.
