MAKE Seminar 2023: Media, Art, Knowledge, Education at An Draíocht, Blanchardstown
March 8th 2023 saw hundreds of School of Media students and TU Dublin staff attend An Draíocht in Blanchardstown for a packed day of talks and discussions from some of Ireland's leading creative talent at TU Dublin’s seminar: MAKE 2023: Media, Art, Knowledge, Education.
The seminar explored the theme of ‘The Future of Digital Media', with sub-themes of accessibility, collaboration, emergent technologies, post-pandemic practices, critical AI literacies, the intersection of technologies and craft, and universal design.
Morning session speakers included Ashwin Chacko, Illustrator and Mentor at Design OP, Grainne McGuinness, Creative Director of Paper Owl Films, Steven Collins from Deloitte and a sit-down discussion between Hugh Rogers, lecturer in Creative Digital Media, and Emer Reynolds, Director and Multi-Award-Winning Film Editor.
The diverse afternoon programme contained sessions from James Kelleher, Head of Design at Publicis and Niki Collier, who practices traditional textile crafts using sustainable materials. Two further speakers spoke passionately on the importance of universal design and accessibility (David Pollard, founder of Sapien Innovation, and Joshue O’Connor, CEO of Accessible UX Consultancy).
The event was closed by Nicola Duffy, lecturer in Creative Digital Media and coordinator of the annual MAKE seminar. Nicola reflected on the immense wealth of talent who visited staff and students for the day and already has us looking forward to MAKE 2024.
