Collect your STLR tag at Green Week events

All Green Week events can be STLR tagged under Civic Knowledge, Skills and Experience. Find the QR code displayed at in-person events and as online coordinators to share QR tags at online events.

STLR (Student Transformation Learning Record) is an exciting learning initiative which allows students to gain formal recognition for learning experiences gained inside and outside the classroom. STLR is about students development of their transversal skills to increase their employability. The STLR model has five ‘competencies’ to help develop these soft skills:

  • Civic Knowledge, Skills & Experience - Effectively achieving a civic aim
  • Global Culture Competence - Being able to handle human differences
  • Health & Wellbeing Development- Being resilient and looking out for others so that, for example, stress levels are managed
  • Research & Innovation Competence Building- Being able to research, think critically and problem solve effectively
  • Teamwork & Leadership- Being able to influence others effectively

The Climate Question

Calling all TU Dublin students!

  • How do you think your course in TU Dublin could help you in tackling climate change?
  • Do you have a question about climate change?

During Green Week there will be a chance for you to put a question on climate change to your lecturers. This is your opportunity to get us all thinking about what matters in addressing climate change. The Climate Question postcards will be available at all TU Dublin libraries during Green Week. Put your question on the postcard, add your course of study and leave your postcard at the collection point at a TU Dublin library.

TU Dublin Climate Action Plan - have your say during Green Week

TU Dublin will soon publish the TU Dublin Climate Action Plan and we want ideas and sentiment from students and staff on the University's role to deliver on climate action. Listen to Green-Campus Co-Chair, Giacomo Di Capua, who is encouraging all students and staff to take this opportunity to get involved. Click here to have your say.

Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring -  An Environmental Book Reading Club

As part of Green Week at TU Dublin, Ken Boyle, School of Architecture, Building and Environment, will host a discussion on Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. To participate you can read the whole book or just one or two chapters. We will discuss the book, its historical context, impact and relevance to today.

Silent Spring alerted readers to the damage widespread and unregulated use of insecticides and herbicides was doing to humans, habitats and bird and fish populations. Through Silent Spring and her earlier publications Rachel Carson succeeded in creating a new public awareness of the environment.

The New Yorker magazine published parts of the book and these are available online. Copies of the book are in the Bolton Street library.

International Women's Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) highlights women’s achievements, recognises challenges and draws attention to issues like gender equality, reproductive rights, and gender-based violence. The theme for this year’s event is #EmbraceEquity and TU Dublin are hosting a series of events. See the schedule here.

Mindfulness

Take some time during Green Week to take care of your mental health and well-being. TU Dublin's Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy Service run free weekly Mindfulness Meditation sessions at each campus location. Sessions last 40 minutes and participants are welcome to have a hot beverage awards.
