The Irish Research Council has announced the 2022 recipients of the Government of Ireland/Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarships. These prestigious awards are presented to individuals, across all disciplines, for excellent research.

Soprano and TU Dublin Conservatoire PhD candidate Sandra Oman is named as a 2022 recipient. Ms. Oman’s research focuses on the role of Manon in Giacomo Puccini’s 1893 opera, Manon Lescaut—specifically, on the formulation of an holistic strategy for the preparation and execution of this complex role. Her doctoral research is complemented by her career as an opera singer over the past two decades, both nationally and internationally, in over forty roles. Her team of supervisors is Dr Rachel Talbot, Prof. Una Hunt and Dr Kerry Houston, with Mairéad Hurley as répétiteur.

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and managed by the Council. The Scholarship Programme is highly competitive, with successful awardees under the programme recognised as demonstrating world-class potential as future research leaders.
