TU Dublin Launches Green Week With Celebration of Inspiring Sustainability Leaders

Published: 8 Mar, 2022

TU Dublin Green Week is an annual celebration of innovation and partnerships, a chance to debate ideas and to showcase a living lab for environmental sustainability across Ireland's first Technological University.

The University launched Green Week 2022 with the panel discussion Inspiring Sustainability Leaders featuring Ciaran Cuffe, MEP and Jennifer Boyer, Vice President for Sustainability at TU Dublin.

Chaired by Dr Teresa Hurley, the discussion explored critical global sustainability issues, which Ciaran Cuffe MEP is addressing through his work in the European Parliament, while VP for Sustainability Jennifer Boyer discussed how TU Dublin's Strategic Intent 2030 is tackling the sustainability challenges facing the University. Student Dean Brickland, Vice-Chair of TU Dublin's Green Campus Committee and Lecturer Nathalie Cazaux, Chair of the Green Campus Committee on the Blanchardstown Campus, also joined to provide invaluable insight into the work of the Green Campus Committee and an overview of Green Week taking place, from Monday, 07 March to Friday, 11 March 2022.

Promoting this year's TU Dublin Green Week to the wider University community, Vice President for Sustainability Ms Jennifer Boyer called on students and colleagues to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and participate in at least one of the more than 50 events. "Organised by TU Dublin's Green Campus Committee, this year's Green Week is an opportunity to promote all aspects of sustainability as part of our teaching, research, and operations, to cultivate responsible engagement, protect our planet and develop our people through real-world climate action. In-person events are taking place on each campus, as well as using online and HyFlex modes. There is something for everyone, and each event offers a unique example of how sustainability is relevant to our daily lives."

Congratulating the Green Campus Committee on a rich calendar of events, President of TU Dublin, Professor David FitzPatrick, remarked that Green Week was instrumental in how the University is working to cultivate sustainability awareness within the University community and to lead public debate about climate action. "Across a variety of disciplines, TU Dublin provides learning opportunities from apprenticeship to PhD, which instil a sustainability mindset and create sustainability champions amongst our alumni in many economically crucial sectors, both in Ireland and globally. Green Week allows students and staff to delve deeper into climate topics that interest them and to explore imaginative and innovative solutions in a multi-disciplinary setting. Green Week is just one vehicle employed by the University to build an understanding of sustainability, and we are establishing a new sustainability forum to drive public discourse and influence policy development in partnership with leading thought leaders."
