TU Dublin announces new Sport Scholars

TU Dublin announced its new Sports Scholars last week when 79 student-athletes were honoured and formally awarded a place on the University’s 2022-23 Athlete Sports Programme.

Student-athletes representing a wide range of sports, from rugby, soccer and Gaelic games to badminton, cycling and para-swimming, are striving to achieve excellence in their sport - to represent TU Dublin and Ireland on an International stage at the World University Games and at Olympic, Paralympic, World and European Championships and at the highest intercountry stage.

Among those on the high-performance pathway are:

  • Ireland Para Swimmer and Tokyo 2020 silver medalist – Nicole Turner
  • Leinster Sub Academy rugby player – Joshua O'Hare
  • Irish Senior women's cricket players – Hannah and Louise Little
  • Irish Senior International badminton player – Jonathan Dolan
  • Irish Racing Cyclist with UCI Continental team EvoPro Racing – Jack Murphy
  • Kilkenny Senior camogie player – Emma Minogue

Guests in attendance at the Athlete Support Programme Presentation Awards event included Mary Meaney, Registrar and Deputy President; Christy O'Shea, Senior Manager – Sport, Societies & Student Life and Una May, CEO of Sport Ireland, whose daughter Caoimhe May was being formally awarded with a place on the Programme in her chosen sport of Mountain Biking.

Speaking at the event, Registrar and Deputy President Dr Mary Meaney said, "The University has developed a strong reputation for fostering our athletes' sporting and educational development, ensuring that TU Dublin remains a strong destination of choice for the very best student-athletes both domestically and internationally.  We are very proud of the achievements of our student-athletes over the past number of years who have gone on to achieve great success in their competitive fields, and I would like to congratulate this year's scholars and wish everyone the very best success both on and off the field of play".
