TU Dublin Adopts Athena Swan Charter
At a celebratory International Women's Day event in Grangegorman today, TU Dublin formalised its commitment to the Athena SWAN Ireland charter, a key pillar of Ireland's national strategy for gender equality.
The charter offers a framework for progressing equality in higher education and research unique to Ireland and supports Universities, academic departments, and professional units in impactful and sustainable gender equality work.
Professor Yvonne Galligan Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and TU Dublin President David FitzPatrick.
TU Dublin recently signed a commitment to the Athena SWAN Charter Principles to address systemic inequalities and embed inclusive cultures in the University. Speaking about the announcement, Professor David FitzPatrick said, "As President of TU Dublin, I am immensely proud of our diverse community of students and staff, but acutely aware that more must be done to address systemic inequalities and embed inclusive cultures in higher education. One way we are doing this is our adoption of the Athena SWAN Ireland charter principles, which provides us with a framework to advance equality within our University and achieve our strategic ambition to be recognised as an exemplar in equality, diversity and inclusion."
Welcoming this institutional commitment, Professor Yvonne Galligan, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Chairperson of the Athena SWAN National Committee, said, 'It is great to see TU Dublin join other higher education institutions in making this public commitment to address inequity and foster inclusion in higher education. Coming so soon after our institutional Athena SWAN application, it re-emphasises the priority given in TU Dublin to embedding a culture of belonging for students and staff.'
