New Report on Women's Entrepreneurship in Europe

Published: 8 Oct, 2021

A new report on women's entrepreneurship in Europe has been written by Prof Tom Cooney and launched at the recent WEgate Summit 2021.

WEgate is an EU funded initiative to promote greater levels of entrepreneurial activity by women in Europe.

The report is based on a survey of 316 responses from 25 countries and is dedicated to finding out the best ways to support businesses driven by women entrepreneurs in Europe. The survey found that while women make up 52% of the total European population, only 34.4% of the European Union (EU) are self-employed, and 30% of start-up entrepreneurs are women.

Respondents rated enterprise support agencies very poorly and preferred to access support from women's business networks. The most requested supports were networking and mentoring programmes, while difficulty accessing finance is still the biggest challenge to growth.

Further details about the report and how to access it can be found at https://wegate.eu/news-events/news/findings-webarometer-2021-are-out
