Applications Now Open for Human-Centred AI Master's Programme at TU Dublin
A new Masters's programme in Ethical A.I. funded by the European Union is now open for applications, with full-time and part-time offerings commencing in September 2022.
The programme, delivered on the University's Tallaght Campus and online, has received funding from the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility with substantial scholarships available to successful applicants for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The latest wave of the information revolution uses Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and related technologies to exploit a market worth a potential €125billion by 2025. The technological world is fast-paced, with new versions of a product released up to several times per hour, allowing the first-mover to capture significant market share.
A.I. is a powerful analysis and decision-making technology capable of contributing solutions to society's most intractable problems. Unfortunately, it is also a technology with some poor examples in terms of reliability, generalisability and accuracy. Serious questions arise where technology provides improved efficiency and financial outcomes but also can be shown to have inadvertently incorporated racist biases and discriminated against under-represented minorities in the process.
Didn't get a bank loan? Didn't get shortlisted for a job? – significant decisions need to be explainable and fair - 'Computer Says No' is not an acceptable response hence the need for Transparency, Trustworthiness and Explainability in A.I. decision making.
This AI Masters programme takes a human-centred approach, which means considering the impact of technology on humans and their rights from the outset. The course considers the whole of the A.I. lifecycle from the data used to train systems through the development of systems onwards to maintaining accuracy in real-world scenarios. The emphasis is on exploiting technology and providing ethical solutions to challenges. It will provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to develop, implement, and manage Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) applications that meet the standards of Ethicality, Trustworthiness, and Transparency required under upcoming E.U. Legislation.
The body of knowledge used in the programme was developed by academic, research and industry experts from across the European Union, including Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Naples, Bulgaria and the Netherlands. Participants will get an opportunity to engage with these experts, and thesis project ideas will be drawn from industry and research organisations with real-world applications.
