An under-graduate team comprising final year students from the BSc Business and Law and BSc Business and Management programmes competed at the Lazaridis International Case Competition at Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada). Alex Kelly, Jodie Vard, Katie O Sullivan (BSc Business and Management) and Patrick Farry (BSc Business and Law) challenged themselves against teams from 15 other universities. The divisional draw grouped TU Dublin with McGill University Canada, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences Netherlands and the University of Technology Sydney Australia. The participating teams were tasked with making recommendations to Nestle Canada to help them increase their on-line sales by a specific 63% over a 12 month period and with ensuring that the supply chain management related challenges associated with this target were addressed. They were narrowly beaten into second place by the University of Sydney who progressed to the Grand Final – where they were crowned champions.
The team was selected and coached by Dr. Eoghan O’Grady. According to Eoghan – “it had to be an amazing proposed strategy to beat TU Dublin. And it was. Warm congratulations to the University of Technology Sydney on going on to win the Grand Final”. Eoghan adds “our continued involvement in these and other case competitions are a critical prong of our signature pedagogy i.e. case study teaching and learning and allows TU Dublin students to challenge themselves against teams from some of the top business schools around the world. It does so much to increase TU Dublin’s profile and reputation on the world stage as well of course of providing an amazing learning and networking opportunities for team coaches and team delegates”.
Dr Pat Kenny, Programme Director of the BSc Business & Management and BSc Business & Law programmes, praised the commitment of both students and teaching staff in preparing for international case study competitions. "We are very proud of the students on our international case study teams. They consistently compete at a high level because of their own personal commitment and work ethic combined with the technical, analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills which are developed by our expert lecturers across all four years of the degree programmes.
