Minister Harris invites expressions of interest to fill positions on the Governing Body of TU Dublin
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris TD has invited expressions of interest from candidates for consideration for nomination as Ministerial Representatives of the Governing Body of Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin).
The Minister intends appointing three Ministerial appointments to fill external member vacancies on the Governing Body as prescribed under Section 12 (1)(i) of the Technological Universities Act 2018.
Minister Harris highlighted the importance of these positions: “On 1st January 2019, TU Dublin became the first Technological University to be established in the State, marking an important milestone in the development of our higher education system.
“These positions on the Governing Body of TU Dublin provide an opportunity for individuals to become involved in a meaningful way in shaping and implementing the strategic direction of TU Dublin as well as playing an integral part in the achievement of its objectives.
“Autonomy and flexibility are important features of higher education institutions, including TU Dublin, but these features must be matched with transparent governance and accountability in the HEI. These external positions on the Governing Body of TU Dublin provide an independent voice and authority to the Governing Body to assist it in discharging its accountability to students, stakeholders and the public together with meeting its overall vision of providing high-quality education and research.
I would encourage candidates who have the necessary expertise and experience to submit an expression of interest for these positions.”
The process of filling these vacancies is being managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. Expressions of interest will be assessed before the Minister is provided with a shortlist of candidates who are deemed to be suitable for appointment to the governing body, from which the Minister will make his selection.
A detailed information booklet can be found on the Department’s website, and expressions of interest may be made by submitting a curriculum vitae and detailed cover letter to boardvacancies@dfheris.gov.ie.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is 5pm on 28 April 2021.
