TU Dublin Wins Excellence in Education and Training Award
The School of Accounting and Finance at TU Dublin based in Aungier Street has won the Excellence in Education and Training Award at the 2020 Irish Accountancy Awards for their work on the Student Managed Fund.
Established by Seán O'Reilly (Assistant Head of School) and MSc. Finance students in 2018, the Student Managed Fund has gone from strength to strength with over 250 students taking part since then.
The Student Managed Fund allows the students to manage a real-life investment fund in collaboration with Goodbody Stockbrokers. This experiential learning initiative provides students with the opportunity to develop financial analytical skills, learn about business valuations and economic factors which influence the stock markets as well as improving their communicational skills and working in teams. In the two years being involved in the national Goodbody Student Managed Fund competition, TU Dublin has raised €10,000 for Pieta House.
The Student Managed Fund has been incorporated into a new optional Investment and Portfolio Management module, which is available for BSc. Economics and Finance and BSc. Accounting and Finance final-year students in Aungier Street, which provides students with an opportunity to put into practice what they learn in theory.
The Irish Accountancy Awards is an annual event to showcase excellence within the Accountancy industry. While the main event was due to take place in April, it was delivered virtually on Wednesday, 18 November.
