TU Dublin celebrates its first Data Centre Operations and Management BSc Graduates
Graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Data Centre Operations and Management were conferred on Wednesday 25 November. This is a wonderful achievement and a major milestone in the process that started with conversations back in 2017 between staff in the School of Informatics and Engineering and Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other Data Centre providers in the Dublin area. This led to a proposal for provision of courses in Data Centre Management submitted to Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet.
A team from TU Dublin developed a suite of innovative applied courses, re-imagining the curriculum to fit the needs of 21st century technology professionals in the Cloud hosting industry. The level-6 Special Purpose Award Course had its first rollout in September 2018, with the level-7 course proper starting in January 2019. Eighteen students of the initial rollout finished in June 2020 and were conferred with their Bachelor of Science degrees at an online ceremony on Wednesday.
Our collaboration with Amazon Web Services, to develop and deliver applied courses in Data Centre Operations and Management, including energy saving technologies and practices, is already empowering our graduates and their communities to thrive in the global workplace.
The next rollout of the Level 6 Course will start in January 2021, and the second rollout of the Level 7 Course, TU074, will begin in September 2021. We are delighted that our partners Amazon Web Services have once more offered up to 20 scholarships for students on the level-6 bridging course, with an opportunity for graduates of the level-6 Course to take part in a 14-week internship programme at an AWS facility around Dublin. Applications are currently being accepted for the Level 6 programme. For more information, see www.tudublin.ie/study/part-time/courses/data-centre-operations/
