Dr Yin Lu graduated from a collaborative program between Technological University Dublin and Nanjing Tech University with a BSc (Honour) Pharmaceutical Science. After successful completion of his undergraduate studies, he completed his Postgraduate studies in Trinity College Dublin and was awarded his PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Science from TCD (Trinity College Dublin) in 2021. He subsequently completed 1.5 years postdoctoral research in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology in TCD under the supervision of Professor Richard K. Porter.
During his Postgraduate and Post Doctoral studies he worked as an associate staff member in the Tallaght campus for 5 years, delivering tutorials primarily for the students studying on the TU Dublin Nanjing Tech joint international programs. He also lectured to students across several programmes in the school, including BSc Pharmaceutical Science and DNA & Forensic Analysis as well as teaching modules through English in Nanjing Tech University.
His research focused on:
I. The effect of drugs on the cell metabolism, including cell proliferation and cell phenotype (cell migration, cell invasion, anoikis) of brain cancer cell line and specific gene-knockout cell line.
II. The chemical biology of bile acid prodrugs and their metabolism, e.g., how the structural modification of bile acids can affect the cytotoxicity of the liver cancer cells. His research into the epimerization of bile acids into different isomers led to a paper publication in Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis, and continuous research into the muricholic acids and their potential to cancer treatment.
